For the little town of Pine Beach it was a  huge field of over 1600 runners  which may have topped its total population at this year's Annual Pine Beach 5K held on Sunday, June 28th.  With bright sunny skies and a cooling ocean breeze the runners made their way around the Jersey Shore town with a finish along side the park on the bay.

In addition to the 5K a 1 Mile Run was also held.

After the race a giant party was held in the par which included a barbecue, lots of food and ice cream for all. Awards were presented to top finishers as well as USATF team awards.  Many random prize drawings were also presented.

The Start of the Summer Series 5K

The Club's Summer Series got off in grand fashion with a large turnout and the runners were greeted to some near ideal running conditions. With some cooling breezes the temperatures dropped by race time.

Kicking things off was the kids9 and under  half mile - for some unknown reason the lead pack decided to take a turn onto the soccer field which set them back a bit but they got back on track and all finished strong. It was followed by the kids 14 and under mile which circled the soccer fields. Coming in first were Sam Lucid in a time of 6:07 and Megan O'Dowd in 6:19.

In the new 5K course which was 1 and a half loops around the complex along the running path the overall winners were Matt Nelson shown finishing on the left in 16:46 and Dactilia Booth shown finishing on the right in 19:46. Clarence Lurch continued his domination of the 80+ age group finishing first again.  The first Race Walker was Fran Emanuel.

The series takes a week of for the Fourth of July Week and continues on Thursday July 9.

Thanks to all the volunteers who showed up to help with registration, scoring and the other tasks necessary to stage the event.

Some Notes

Some Notes - Have received several emails from members asking why their times are not posted. If you would like your time posted you must send it in to jsrc@hotmail.com. I don't generally scour results to find members times. Also - try to send in your results as soon as possible but at least the week of the race.  That way your results will be posted along with everyone else's. Don't send in a long list of results from the past several months - old results may not get posted.

Also received several inquiries why there were no photos from several recent events or why their photo was not taken at a race.  I was away for the pre - Father's Day Race and missed that race and am not at every event.  I do try to take everyone's picture.  Sometimes you might be missed because it gets crowded or you may be hidden by a runner in front of you or its just not a good angle.  So please keep that in mind.  Photos are available for purchase as prints or digital downloads at a very modest cost compared to other photos services. The photos don't have logos or "proof" over them so you see the entire image as well unlike other photos sites.. If you want to keep the photos coming consider purchasing a few!
